Nina Baumgartner
PhD candidate
Nina Baumgartner completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Bioinformatics at the University of Zurich with an exchange semester at the University of Sydney, where she developed a strong interest in quantitative, computational approaches to biological questions-from human health to animal conservation. She went on to earn an MSc in Systems Biology at ETH Zurich, working on projects spanning omics integration in metabolic health, kinetic modelling of protein aggregation in neurodegenerative disease, radiomics for predicting paediatric tumour radiosensitivity, and eye-tracking to detect uncertainty in radiologists during segmentation tasks. Nina has now joined the Institute of Tissue Medicine and Pathology (ITMP) at the University of Bern as a PhD candidate under the supervision of Prof. Inti Zlobec. Her research focuses on elucidating metastatic pathways in colorectal cancer using combined 2D and 3D morphomolecular approaches, intending to generate biologically grounded insights to support precision-medicine strategies. Beyond her research, Nina is a scholar of the Swiss Study Foundation and leads the blog team for Women in the Natural Sciences (WiNS) at ETH Zurich.
